Four Letter Word

There’s something about a walk that is exciting! And I know exactly what it is! The smells! Oh, and the running I get to do when I’m let off the leash!

Being let off the leash is a tricky situation, because it means I have to be on my best behavior the whole time. That means no going in the street, no barking at strangers, or chasing other fur-friends. I also have to stop at the end of the sidewalk and wait for Mama and Daddy before I cross the street. But the FREEDOM is worth all the rules!!

Right now we live in a neighborhood with a lot of hills, and those are the best yards to run in. Soft grass is always a plus, because then I can rub my face in it! Winter isn’t really good for that, but there are A LOT of leaves to sniff. And trust me, I don’t miss one! Another great thing about all the hills is that there are usually brick walls. Daddy has taught me to jump on top of them (they are only a couple feet off the ground), and boy is the view great up there. You know when Simba is grown up, and he stands at the edge of Pride Rock? That’s me! Or at least what it feels like.

Anyways, back to the smells. Mama has asked me what exactly I’m sniffing. My answer: EVERYTHING! Why do you think we pee on everything? That’s our version of texting. Or as Daddy calls is pee-mail. (He thinks he’s funny). Humans are the ones that came up with the quote, “stop and smell the roses,” but we puppers are the only ones doing it! Okay, well maybe it’s not always roses, but if YOU had our noses you’d want to scout out all the smells too!

That fire hydrant for instance, is a puppy hotline! So many have stopped to sniff (and pee on it). Do you really think I could pass it up, without leaving my mark?!

So, as you can see, I’m the kind of boy that has to get outside, and this cold weather is messing all of that up! I’m small, and I shiver easily. Don’t even get me started on this snow stuff! I’ve already slipped three times on the back porch. And it all sticks to my feet! Luckily, Mama took me on two long walks before the bad weather, but I don’t know how much longer I’ll be happy inside.

What’s the weather like where you are? Mama says the snow we get here is nothing, and that I’m being a big baby, but I won’t complain about the teasing when I get cuddles after I get back inside.
